Some talking points to think about for your call:
- The Salish Sea is a living ecosystem that supports Southern Resident orcas, salmon, coastal communities, and future generations. Canadians care deeply about protecting these waters, and projects that weaken biodiversity protections and push endangered species closer to extinction are not in the ‘public interest’.
- Fast-tracking pipelines, ports, and other major projects within one year reduces transparency, just, science-based review processes and increases risks to the Salish Sea from shipping, underwater noise, pollution, and habitat degradation. Overriding environmental safeguards and weakening existing legal protections also undermines democratic accountability, erodes public trust, and strips away critical legal tools designed to protect ecosystems and endangered species.
- Economic development should not come at the expense of biodiversity, Indigenous leadership, healthy ecosystems, and future generations’ ability to experience a thriving Salish Sea.
Have you sent a letter?
We also have an action to send letters to decision-makers, asking them to create a legacy that prioritizes biodiversity, transparent, science-based decision-making, Indigenous leadership, and the long-term health of the Salish Sea. Enough is enough. No pipeline, port, or industrial project should come at the cost of extinction.
