Explore the sources and impacts of ocean noise in the Salish Sea and tune in to a panel of speakers as they delve into their work.
Wednesday, October 16 | 6 – 7:30 pm PDT | Free | Zoom
Join us for a webinar on a pressing issue that marine life is facing- ocean noise pollution. With increasing human activities across the Salish Sea such as shipping, construction, and industrial projects, the cacophony of these sounds are drowning out the sounds of marine species, particularly sensitive creatures like whales, who face unprecedented challenges.
Guest speakers include: Dr Kieran Cox, Katherine Fedoroff and Fred DeNisco (The Orca Man)
In this webinar, we will:
- Discover sources and impacts of noise pollution: learn about various projects and activities happening in the Salish Sea region that contribute to underwater noise pollution and its impacts on marine life.
- Learn about Canada’s Ocean Noise Strategy: the good, the bad, and the ugly!
- Highlight ongoing research and conservation efforts: guest speakers will discuss a range of topics including how to improve government’s ability to drive a more data-driven noise strategy, talk about latest findings from ongoing research, understanding the regulations in place, and how you can contribute to the solution.
- Q&A session: at the end of the webinar, you will have the chance to ask the panel or GSA any questions or provide any insights you might have.
You can expect to deepen your understanding of underwater noise pollution and its effects on marine ecosystems as well as learn about current research and regulations happening in the Salish Sea. Don’t miss out! If you are interested but unable to attend, we will have a recording of this webinar available after the event.
