From Oyster to Orcas 2024

Thank you to everyone who came out to our biggest From Oysters to Orcas fundraising event yet!

Over 60 GSA supporters and friends enjoyed an evening of food, drinks, and conversations. A huge thank you to our generous hosts Fanny Bay Oysters – Vancouver’s only tide-to-table seafood restaurant – who provided a delicious menu of seafood canapes, and drinks sponsors Arterra Wines, Phillips Brewery, Twin Sails Brewery, and Copper Penny Station gin.

We really enjoyed hearing from Sadie Lye and Dilan Sunthareswaran – researchers at UBC’s Palagic Ecosystems Lab – on the impact of urbanization on ocean health.

This topic is close to our hearts at GSA, where we’ve long advocated for the importance of a watershed-wide approach to protecting marine ecosystems.

As Sadie and Dilan discussed, coastal marine ecosystems are some of the most ecologically rich environments in the world because of their unique interface between land and sea.

But with 9 million people living in the Salish Sea region, urbanization and industrialization can disrupt critical land-sea linkages and the marine ecosystems they support.

We left feeling full and inspired to keep up the fight for a healthy and sustainable Salish Sea, and we hope you did too!
