To celebrate, we are turning to you, our community, to share some of the stories from the last 30 years – and visions for the next 30!
We’re looking for short videos (maximum 90 seconds), all about your connection to Georgia Strait Alliance. These videos will be shared live or on social media during our 30th Anniversary Celebration events in November. There are lots of things you could talk about:
- How you have worked with or benefitted from Georgia Strait Alliance
- A personal anecdote or story about why Georgia Strait Alliance is important to your or the region
- What makes Georgia Strait Alliance unique
- Your visions for the future of this region
Feel free to get creative with your video – the most important part is that your message is heartfelt! We have included some tips & tricks to help you get the best quality video (click the grey bar below to view them), but feel free to reach out to Kirsten (kirsten@georgiastrait.org) if you need extra help or support. When you’re done, upload the video through the form on this page. It may take a few minutes for the video to upload – please be patient!
Tips for your Video
You probably have everything you need to record this video in your home right now. It’s possible to take great-quality video with your phone or computer webcam by following these simple tips:
- Background
Find a place to film with a well-lit background. You can spruce it up with some plants or decor.Avoid distractions in the background such as windows, mirrors, tv or computer monitors, busy crowds, house pets, or children.
- Lighting
Try to find a place to film that is well-lit, where you can sit facing the light source. Natural light is best. A tip to control lighting: Try using window blinds to manage your lighting so that your face is slightly brighter than the background.Be mindful of shadows on your face, which can be caused by a strong light. Soft, diffused light is the most flattering
- Film horizontally and keep it steady
Record your video in landscape mode and do your best to keep it steady. This is easy with a webcam, but it challenging to keep a camera steady with your hands. If you’re using your phone, try to use some kind of tripod
- Watch out for background noise
Try to find a quiet area to record, and turn off fans, music, and heaters. Close the doors and ask other people in the building to be quiet while you are recording. Background noise can distract from your words and message.
- Practice & rehearse (but don’t use a script)
Take some time to think about what you want to say before you start, and practice saying it to yourself a few times before filming, but don’t read off a script. It might seem helpful, but this can make the video seem unnatural and less genuine.
